23rd Sept 2020 - Residents demand new clean air rules for former gasworks sites in England.


Calling itself Gasworks Communities United (GCU), the new alliance includes residents near former gasworks in Southall, Hornsey and Lea Bridge in north and east London, and in East Brighton. It is calling for remediation – or cleaning – of all contaminated land to be independently assessed to ensure toxic substances are not released into the air during excavation, among other environmental measures.

14th August 2020 - AGHAST members attend a protest organised by ACORN citing one of our concerns: Flats due to be built here will not be affordable to people living and working in Brighton. In addition businesses currently on the Gasworks site will be pushed out with nowhere to go. That's 250 local workers whose lives will get that bit harder. Is the gasworks the last brownfield site for light industrial business in Brighton - we do believe it is.
